The Blues Club On 5th September The Connection played the 'Blues Club' in Wells. Performing to a packed audience they ran through a set that stretched the blues format,,, much to the audiences delight. "On the street where we live" Chris explained "Blues lives right next door to Gospel and Jazz!" Chicago blues favourites like 'Big Boss Man' and 'Messing with the Kid' were fired out along side origianls like Chris's 'Prodigal Son', 'Rock and Roll Doctor' and 'Your Restless Heart'. A spirited airing of Nat Adderley's jazz instrumental 'Worksong' allowed Bassist Graham J. Russell to show just why he is so respected. Drummer Rowena Steady laid down an authroitave backbeat throughtout from behind her electronic kit. Nigel overcame the lack of space to deliver on Keys from behind a looming PA rig. Resident M.C. Geoff Dixon sat in and traded solos- memorably on a steaming rendition of 'Stormy Monday Blues'. Despite the limitations on space, by the end of the set, the crowd was on its feet and literally 'dancing in the aisles'. A great deal of good feedback from the audience and The Connection have already been asked back. |
